Sharing from Yoics.com

1. Select the “gear” icon next to the device you want to share.
2. Select the “+” to expand the sharing controls.
3. Select what type of sharing you’d like to provide & enter Yoics ID or email into the “invite” box.  Then click the ’share” button.
   • View (only allows friend to view content)
   • Change (allows friend to change content, note: must be supported by device)
   • Guest (guest access, drop-down menu specifies duration etc.  PRO only)
4. Shows who the device is shared to (by email address), and allows you to remove (delete) them from sharing.  By default your email address is shown.

So you’ve got a web-cam and you’d love to create a daily time-lapse video.  With Yoics, it couldn’t be easier.

If you haven’t already done so, download and install the latest version of Yoics for Windows.

You can either have the wizard setup your camera for you, or you can manually configure it by selecting Web/IP Cam:

Time-lapse

The Time-lapse setting allows you to create a daily video of your camera’s view, independent of events.   Images are captured every-minute then assembled into a video clip at the end of the day.

1. Click to enable time-lapse creation.
2. Click and adjust the time settings if you want to only create a time-lapse during a particular time of the day.

Like other video, the daily time-lapse will be uploaded to YouTube and a notification will be sent out (Twitter, email) if you’ve setup Yoics that way.

Instantly publish to YouTube

Yoics allows you to automatically publish your captured events on YouTube.   Simply enter in your YouTube credentials and video clips will be uploaded based on the criteria that you’ve selected.

1. Enable YouTube publishing
2. Only publish your daily summary (default)
3. Store motion events in your private YouTube (requires Yoics Pro)

Whether it’s your initial setup or if you want to change your configuration, you start by selecting “Web/IP Camera” on the Yoics application.

Selecting that will bring up the general setup page.

1. Select the webcamera on your machine that you would like to use with Yoics.  Select Change, if the default device is not what you want.
   • Check “Enable motion detection” if you would like to use the surveillance features
   • Alias:  Give your camera any name that you’d like
   • Select the folder where you’d like video to be stored.
2. If you want to get to the Advance settings, select Change Settings.”
3. To remove a camera, select this buttom.
4. If you would like to monitor more than one camera, use this option to add it (Pro feature only).
5. Yoics will detect all video sources, if you would like the application to ignore particular ones (e.g. 1394 firewire port) you can select that here.

General settings

Selecting the “Chang Settings” will bring up the advanced setup pages.

1. Enter in the street location of your camera (optional).  This data will be useful if you like your camera to appear in maps mash-ups etc.
2. Select the rate per second that you’d like to capture events & what size (resolution) that you’d like to use.

Motion detection

1. Select to enable motion detection for your webcam.  This will record a video clip based on your specified parameters each time motion is detected.
   • Motion sensitivity: Select how much activity should trigger a recording.
   • Minimum Motion Clip Length:  Specify how long an event should be before recording (=motion+dead time).
   • Maximum Motion Clip Length: Sets an upper bound on the clip length
   • Local Motion Storage Limit:  How much room you want to have for video clips.
   • Motion Event End Dead Time:  How much time after an event that the program should wait, before stopping recording.
   • Maximum number of days to retain:  How many days to keep the video.
2. Motion area:  Use your mouse to select an area to detect motion, all other areas will be ignored.
3. This uses your hard disk storage most efficiently, where once it’s used up, it will start deleting  older video clips.
4. Selecting this will enable the creation of a daily summary, comprised of a time-lapse of your day’s events.

Notification

Notification specifies when/how you’d like to be notified if your webcam captures an event.

1. General settings
   • Minimum Clip Length:  Set the minimum length clip for which you want to be notified
   • Include motion images:  Include a thumbnail in your notification
2. Email notification
   • Set the interval for which you’d like to receive an email notification.
3. Twitter notification
   • You can have a Tweet automatically sent out for either your daily summary (default) or all of your events.

On-line storage (YouTube)

Yoics allows you to automatically publish your captured events on YouTube.   Simply enter in your YouTube credentials and video clips will be uploaded based on the criteria that you’ve selected.

Overview

The Yoics Remote Access gadget adds the device list into Gmail (iGoogle and Google Desktop).  Once installed you can access any of your Yoics configured computer, folder or devices, with a click of a mouse.  Just click on device hyperlink and a new browser tab or window will be opened up with the device.

Getting started

To begin, you’ll need to have some Yoics configured devices.  If you want to be able to remote desktop or remote access your computer’s folders, you can set it up for free by downloading Yoics for Windows or Yoics for Mac.  Yoics is also available for Linux, the Drobo network attached storage product and network cameras for Lorex and Astak.

Gadget url

In order to add the Yoics Gadget to Gmail, you’ll first need to enable Google Labs.

1. Select “settigns”
2. Select “Labs”

1. Enable “Add any gadget by URL”

1. Select “Gadget”
2. Enter the following url:  http://www.yoics.com/gadgets/YoicsBetaGadget.xml
3. Click “Add”

That’s it.  You’ll see the Yoics gadget added.  Simply enter in your Yoics user ID (or email address) and password.

Accessing your devices

• Clicking on the blue Yoics icon will open up a new browser window or tab with your device.
• To share a device, click on the share icon next to the device.
• To see the access log of a device, just click on the log icon.
• Clicking on the green Yoics icon will show your friends devices.
