Surveillance webcam for iPhone.

Yoics instantly transforms any webCam into your own personal surveillance system. Now whether its your cat, dog or even annoying neighbor, bingo you cat catch it all onto your hard disk. Featuring motion detection & of course remote viewing and sharing, right from your iPhone, Yoics turns your webCam into a perfect iPhone accessory.

Using the Set Up Wizard

For this tutorial, we’re presuming that you already have Yoics installed on your machine. If not, just go to Yoics for Windows to get that done.

The setup wizard will automatically setup your webCam for you & by far that’s the easiest way to go. To access the setup wizard, select Tools>Setup Wizard to access the set up wizard.

Click My Web Cam and hit the <Setup Now> button

The setup wizard will automatically setup your webCam.

Manually setting up your web cam

If you prefer to set up you web cam manually, just click on the web cam icon on the Yoics desktop application, which will bring up the configuration screen.

Web Cam configuration screen

(1) Click here to select your web cam. If you only have one, it will be auto checked for you. (technically the surveillance application only supports one camera, but rumor has it that you can have multiple. don’t say we didn’t warn you if you do it, and it eats up all your CPU cycles though.)

(2) Selecting here enabled motion detection. With this feature enabled, you will only store the footage where motion is detected.

(3) Alias. The default alias will be My Webcam. To change it, simply enter a new alias and this is what will show up on your device list (e.g. mywebcam).

(4) Select or create a folder where all your footage will be stored.

After inputting all your web cam information click <OK> to register the device. Once you have received a confirmation that the registration is complete, you are ready to access or share your web cam.

Your webcam will show up on your device list & you can double-click to view it via your browser, or you can login to yoics.com – to view it remotely from anywhere.

View from any web browser

go to www.yoics.com and enter in your credentials

The top viewer is your live Web Cam view with stored events listed in sequential order.

To delete store events

Simply check the stored event and hit the <delete> button. You will be prompted to enter a password, enter the default password which is "password" We will be upgrading this feature soon, so that you can change and modify your own personal password.

View from your iPhone

View stored events

Share with friends

With Yoics, sharing your camera (or any Yoics device) is as easy as 1-2-3.

Just select the device that you want to share & click on the sharing icon. Enter in the Yoics ID (or email address) of the person that you want to share with (whoever you are sharing with needs to also be registered with Yoics), and click ADD. Once a device has been shared, it will show up on their device list – with a note that it’s shared to them from you.

If you have a falling out with that friend, no worries, just select them & remove them from your share. Needless to say, much easier than asking for a new IP address.

  1. This product is awesome! How do I go about purchasing one?

  2. Yoics is a free software and service product that works with any webcam. You can download Yoics here: http://www.yoics.com/?p=19

  3. That is awesome! I’m waiting for this to end up on some spy television show now! (haha you should really pitch this to network!)

  4. Will the web cam software be available for the Mac? If so, any idea when?

  5. Yes, it’s in the works now & we’ll also be adding support for .mp4 files & auto upload to YouTube. stay tuned.

  6. Are you going to have this available for the new Blackberry Storm?

  7. we’re in the process of adding support for other mobile platforms. we’ll post a new item when it’s ready.

  8. Is there any plans to have more than one camera capabilities?

  9. Rajinder

Yes, we’re in the process of adding multi-camera support now.

  11. We’re thinking of using this software for a CCTV with intercom type system. Therefore, if the webcam you are using has microphone and speaker in-built, does the YOICS software allow you to hear what the camera’s mic is picking up -and let you speak back, through the i-phone?

  12. Han,

Yoics is a flexible network tool, so can be used for just about any type of data. If your CCTV equipment supports audio and video in a format that the iPhone recognizes, then they can both be played back. Communicating back from the iPhone is a bit more complicated, since it would likely require the use of an iPhone app.

We do lots of work for the CCTV market. If you are the manufacturer (or you work closely with them) and would like to see about adding these features directly into the product, just contact us directly. http://www.yoics.com/?page_id=41

  13. Can i view LIVE streaming or just images?

    please email me asap!

  14. The live view is accomplished via motion jpg, so a series of images updated on the fly. Unless jailbroken, the iPhone does not have a mechanism to stream live video. In our next release, we will support mp4 playback for events.

  15. will you please make sorftware support G1 cell phone. Is that in the making? If so, when will it be here?

  16. We are currently working on a version that should work with most mobile platforms. That said, given the G1 supports full web-browsing, the current version should work. Please let us know if you are getting an error.

  17. I have a pc and router at my office and want to connect an IP Camera
Can I view my IP webcam on my Iphone without having the pc running or does the PC have to be on all the time

    Steve

  18. Two answers. If you happen to purchase a IP camera that includes Yoics, then no, your PC does not need to be on. If you but a non Yoics IP camera, then you would need to keep the PC on, so that Yoics can be run on that machine.

  19. my pc has a built in microphone but i cant hear sound on my recordings is sound possible?

  20. Is it possible to enable and disable the webcam (with motion detection) from the webconsole – or schedule times when it is running? If this is planned for future release, is there a timeframe?

    Great stuff.

    Thanks!

  21. I have setup yoics with my webcam and opened an account but when i try to log on to yoics on my iphone it looks as if it is loading but then takes me back to the login screen. Its not saying i’ve entered my details incorrectly and i no that they are right. Any ideas????

  22. chris

if you are still having problems, please email us at support [at] yoics.com and we can see about manually resetting your password.

  23. We’re considering adding that capability, but currently not in the development time-table. We are adding a new feature which auto uploads the clips to YouTube & tweets you for new events, and have also added a daily summary clip of your day’s events. Email us at support [at] yoics [dot] com if you’d like to beta test it.

  24. we are planning on that for the future, no planned release date yet.

  25. Hi, just installed program and it works great, love the fact i can log in and view it on my iphone. the one issue i am having is that when i connect everything is good but if i sign off on my iphone and close everything out on my desktop my camera stays on, why is that, do i have a setting wrong or is that the way it suppose to work? if its not suppose to do that what is the fix for this problem i am having. thanks for your time

  26. I can view my Lorex camera via yoics internet connection at home and here at the office, but when I try to use my iphone I just get a screen with 3 yoics “face” icons. The iphone login process is nothing like I read in the documents. Thanks for any help.

  27. The iPhone does not support streaming media, so you would need to setup the ‘camera viewer’ in addition to the streamer. Once that’s done, it will show up on the device list.

  28. I installed this on 2 pcs and it worked without a problem. The streaming video is not as “live” as I would like it to be. My daughter was able to see me on my webcam. I’ll use some more and see how it works. I tried to use Yawcam but could not get it to work on the internet even after opening up the necessary ports on my router, so I was pleasantly surprised with yoics.

  29. If I install the software in the Iphone can I use it to interact with my friend on Imac? Assuming we both register.

  30. Can you provide a list of webcam’s that have the Yoics software preinstalled ??? If I understand it correctly, this way I can power down my laptop and still be able to access my cam via Yoics.

    Logitech, creative labs, ect……….

    thanks,

    Max

  31. Max, not exactly sure if we’re replying correctly but here goes.

Yoics is installed in cameras from Lorex (http://lorextechnology.com), LNE-3003, and Astak (http://astak.com), IP-700. These are stand alone network cameras, which you can access without having to keep a computer on in your home (or where ever the camera is located). Yoics also works with USB web-cams (the kind that connect to your computer) and in that case, the computer needs to remain on for access.

  32. Yoics.com works automatically with the iPhone (everyone at Yoics has one :-) ), we don’t currently offer a dedicated iPhone app. Regarding interaction, depending on what you would like to do, if you or your friends have devices on Yoics you can access and share them directly from the iPhone.

  33. I have a jailbroken Iphone that I have modified quite a bit, but what do I need to do to get the capability for live video?

    Thanks!

  34. Hi this is GREAT but i am having trouble with my ipod touch :( when i try to connect via safari, because i have several computers on a network with a server i think that the connection is getting lost or something ???? it can not find the webcam and can not make the connection ????

  35. Please go to >View>Connection details and send that information to support [at] yoics [dot] com, and hopefully we can get you going.

  36. if you’d like to get streaming video from your web-cam, then you just need to download and setup yoics on the machine with the cam.

  37. I want to use this with my iPhone as a monitoring device that needs to stream my webcam feed to my iPhone. I understand it will work if I install the software and run it on my computer but will anyone know this is running on my computer? And if so is there a way to run this undetected?

  38. for windows, yoics runs in the background so would be undetected. on the mac, it needs to be running to be able to use.
